Within a week on a Slovenia tour, you will discover all its attractions stretching from the Adriatic coast to the mountains of the Julian Alps. Everything is close at hand in this beautiful, small country with friendly and helpful people.
You will be met at the airport in Ljubljana or Venice and driven to the hotel. Later, gather with your tour guide and other travelling companions for a Welcome drink.
In the morning, you have a city tour of the charming capital of Slovenia, the largest city, one of Europe’s greenest and most liveable capitals. Car traffic in the centre is restricted, leaving the green Ljubljanica River banks free for pedestrians and cyclists. The old town strongly reminds of the 500 years of history under the Habsburg empire with its Viennese architecture and in summer, numerous cafes set up outside seating along the river. You will visit its most remarkable sights: the Three Bridges, the Dragon Bridge, the Cathedral, the Castle, the Prešeren Square, the University building, the Ljubljanica River. The cable car will take you to the castle to enjoy lovely views—the rest of the day at leisure.
After breakfast, travel to Postojna and visit the famous cave, one of the largest in the world, among Slovenia’s most popular attractions. Its stalagmite and stalactite formations are unequalled anywhere. An electric train will take you into the caves and then enjoy in the underground karst world, where nature was the principal architect through the millennia and has formed unique formations. Then you proceed to a nearby wine producer for a wine and prosciutto tasting. Finally, drive to Piran, everybody’s favourite Slovenian coastal city, very picturesque and sitting at the tip of a narrow peninsula, one of the best-preserved historical towns anywhere on the Adriatic and a gem of Venetian Gothic architecture.
In Piran, you will enjoy some free time for a stroll along the sea or the narrow Istrian streets. Then we head to Portoroz, a popular seaside resort. Then continue to the hilly wine region of Goriska Brda, where you enjoy a typical dinner on a local tourist farm. Overnight in Nova Gorica.
After breakfast, we drive along the emerald green Soca River. Next, we stop in Kobarid, where we visit the museum, which displays exhibits on the events that occurred during World War I and gives you a detailed and intimate view of one of the greatest battles of WW1. Then we continue the Slovenia Escorted tour to the famous tourist resort – Bled. Evening at leisure. Overnight.
After breakfast, you go sightseeing of this charming town, the lakeshore, and visit Bled castle clinging to a rocky 139 m high cliff. There you have lovely scenic views. We return to the lake and try the typical good cream cake ‘kremsnita’. In the afternoon, we drive to the valley of Bohinj with its unspoiled nature, a glacial lake amidst the Julian Alps. With its brooding, eerily calm and silent body of water, this lake is a nature lovers paradise. See St. John the Baptist church, a church on the northern side of the Sava Bohinjka. Then, take a cable car to Mt. Vogel, where you will admire the stunning Julian Alps. On the way back to Bled, we visit the Shepherd’s Museum and taste some of the best Slovenian cheeses. Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight.
Breakfast, end of the Slovenia escorted tour, transfer to the airport for your departure flight (Ljubljana
or Venice).
